Brief Description
To eradicate female genital mutilation (FGM), several awareness-raising actions were carried out in several languages and fora theaters were organized. Thus, discussions in small groups, educational talks, youth caravans in border areas, competition games with different targets, a children's march, film debates, fora theatres, sketches, a forum involving schoolchildren and non-school activities were carried out with the participation of 1,133,548 people, including 570,033 women. These communication actions focused on various themes related to FGM, gender, human rights, sexual and reproductive health, child marriage, etc. In addition, messages from goodwill ambassadors (customary chiefs, political leaders and musical artists) were recorded and broadcast more than 85 times on radio and TV channels. Other actions aimed at strengthening the repression of FGM have also been carried out. Thus, from 2013 to 2017, 605 awareness and deterrence patrols were carried out by the defense and security forces, in collaboration with decentralized services and civil society.
